The Sheffield Forgers narrowly overcame the Wigan Riversiders in a tense affair at All Saints on Saturday. Trailing for most of the game, a late second-half revival saw the Forgers claim what seemed for most of the game as an unlikely victory.

Hampered in the first half by individual errors, missed tackles, and poor handling the Forgers repeatedly found themselves conceding needless points.
From the outset it seemed they had underestimated a very capable Wigan side whose tough tackling, hard running and ball movement created continuous problems.

Down by three scores at half time, it wasn't until mid-way through the second half that the Forgers, reinforced with a number of new recruits including Aussie Prop Steve Craven, began to stamp there authority on the game.

The Forgers began to complete their sets and make ground with every play, building the pressure on their inexperienced opponents. The pressure told as the dominance became points, only for Wigan to answer straight back on two occasions.

But as full time approached, The Forgers finally found another gear and were able to overhaul the opponents points tally that they had seen edge ahead of them throughout the game. A powerful score by Paul Holbrook bringing an end to a game The Forgers scarcely deserved to win.

Next Saturday the Forgers seek to atone for last years semi-final defeat as they take on the German Exiles.
