By Staff Copy SHEFFIELD Forgers' dream of playing in the Midlands Merit League final were dashed after a late drop goal gave the German Exiles victory in a hard fought entertaining match at All Saints School. Forgers had gone 11 league games without defeat, but went into the match with a number of key players missing and soon went 8-0 down.
Forgers pulled back a try through impressive centre Tom Else.
But poor Forgers defending allowed Exiles to plough through and Sheffield fell to a 25-24 defeat.
Captain Phil Stubbs said, "We have had such a great season it would have been nice to finish in a final but I'm so proud of everyone.
"They showed what a great side we are. We will be back next year bigger and better and go one step further hopefully."
Vice-captain Simon Waller added: "We are all devastated. But I can't fault the lads. They showed real grit and determination to make the fightback but it just wasn't to be." |
