Forgers Record First Winter Win  E-mail
Sheffield Forgers finally shrugged of their novice tags and recorded their first winter win over Cowling Harlequins.  It was a win the Forgers faithful had been waiting for since a summer semi final victory over Birmingham Bulldogs in the Merit League Shield competition.   The Sheffield men have had mixed performance so far this season with a combination of narrow and heavy defeats, however coach Scaife was in a confident mood "We're improved week on week, I'm starting to see the lads transferring the hard work we do in training onto the pitch.  Lady luck has deserted us in the last few weeks with player withdrawals through injuries before and during matches, however today we have a full quota fit and ready to go".

Hanley move scuppered  E-mail

All smiles
All smiles before the crash
Forgers hopes of securing the signature of the former Bristol RU man Ellery Hanley was cruelly crushed at the last minute.  Ramsden and Hanley were all smiles earlier in the day as an agreement was nearing completion, but hopes and contracts were ripped up following news from over the pond.

The root of the problem appears to be caused by the drastic drop in the Dow Jones stock market panicking the backers of the Forgers.    Resident finincial guru Stephanie Dee gave an insight on how the global economy has conspired against the Sheffield club. Dee stated "The Dow Jones industrial average fell by 777.7 points, its worst one-day decline since the 1987 crash. No club can make big decisions at such a delicate time" She also had a few barbed comments aimed at the US house of representatives "...confidence in the US government to resolve an issue they themselves caused is at rock bottom, the refusal by the House of Representatives to issue the $700 billion rescue scheme defies belief".

It is widely expected that Forgers supremo Ramsden will now approach 'go to' man Mick Rogers to steer the ship till a big name signing can be made.
